Overwater bures and turquoise lagoon on a Fijian island resort

Fiji travel guide

Fiji Holiday Packages from Australia

Fiji is the shortest genuine tropical escape from Australia — around four hours from Sydney, no time-zone jetlag to speak of, and resorts that suit honeymooners and families equally well. This guide covers a proven week, realistic costs, entry rules for Australian passport holders and which months give you the driest weather.

A relaxed 7-day Fiji itinerary

Denarau, the Mamanuca islands and a Yasawa finish. Easily reshaped as a single-resort family stay, an adults-only escape or a two-island split.

Best time to travel

May to October · dry season

Warm days, low humidity and the clearest water. The best all-round window and the busiest during Australian school holidays.

November to April · wet season

Hotter and more humid with afternoon downpours and a cyclone risk; resort rates and airfares are at their lowest.

Australian school holidays

April, July, September and December fill fast for family resorts — we book 6 to 9 months ahead.

Shoulder value

Late April to early June and October deliver dry-season weather without peak-season pricing.

Seasonal dates shift each year with the weather; we track the forecasts and advise on departure dates before you commit.

Visa and entry tips

  • Australian passport holders travelling for tourism currently receive a visitor permit on arrival in Fiji for short stays.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your date of arrival.
  • You may be asked to show return or onward tickets and confirmed accommodation.
  • Travel insurance covering cyclone disruption is strongly recommended for wet-season travel; we can arrange it with your booking.

Entry rules can change at short notice. Always confirm current requirements with the relevant embassy or consulate and with Smartraveller before you travel. We assist with documentation but cannot guarantee entry decisions.
